About Our Dentistry
Barrie Heights Family Dentistry is a family dental office at 352 Yonge Street in Barrie. The practice is owned and led by Dr. Rebeca Riojas-Ozturk, a general and family dentist. We look after patients of every age, from a child’s first visit to adults and seniors who want to keep their own teeth for as long as possible.
Our team speaks English, Spanish, French and Urdu. We participate in the Canadian Dental Care Plan, and we can bill many insurance companies directly. If you are looking for a dental office in Barrie where you can ask questions and get plain answers, this page explains what we do and how to book.
Who is Dr. Rebeca Riojas-Ozturk?
Dr. Riojas-Ozturk earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree at the Autonomous University of Nuevo León in Monterrey, Mexico, before moving to Canada and building her career in Ontario. Spanish is her first language, so Spanish-speaking patients can talk with her directly about their care.
She owns two practices: Barrie Heights Family Dentistry here in Barrie, and BWG Dental Centre in Bradford. She keeps up with continuing education, and has a particular interest in how laser and light therapy can support healing after treatment.
Outside the office she spends time outdoors with her family, and enjoys golf, pickleball and hiking. You can read more on her page: meet Dr. Riojas-Ozturk.
What does a family dental practice look after?
Family dentistry covers the everyday care most people need across a lifetime. That means regular checkups and cleanings, treatment for cavities and gum problems, repairs to broken or worn teeth, and options for replacing teeth that have been lost.
Seeing one office for the whole household has practical benefits. Your dentist gets to know your family’s dental history. Gum disease and tooth decay are both linked to bacteria that can pass between people, so preventive care for everyone in the home is worth keeping up. Read more about family dentistry in Barrie.

Do you see children?
Yes. Family dentistry here covers every age group, from a child’s first visit to dentures for seniors. The Canadian Dental Association suggests a first dental visit within six months of the first tooth appearing, or by about age one.
Early visits are short and gentle. They let your child get used to the chair, the lights and the sounds, and they give your dentist a chance to spot problems early and show you how to care for small teeth at home. Sealants and fluoride treatments can also help protect children’s teeth from decay.
Can I be seen in Spanish, French or Urdu?
Our team speaks English, Spanish, French and Urdu between them. Being able to describe a symptom, ask a question and understand your options in your own language makes a real difference to a dental visit, especially when you are deciding on treatment.
Dr. Riojas-Ozturk speaks Spanish as her first language, so Spanish-speaking patients can discuss their care with her directly, from booking through to aftercare instructions. Learn more on our Spanish-speaking dentist in Barrie page. Our team also speaks French and Urdu, so mention your preferred language when you book.
How does insurance and payment work?
We can bill many insurance companies directly, which means you may not need to pay the full amount up front and wait for a refund. Coverage depends on your plan, so we suggest checking your benefits before a larger treatment. We accept cash, debit and credit cards.
We also participate in the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP), the federal program that helps Canadians without private dental insurance pay for dental care. Eligibility and coverage vary from person to person and can change over time. Our CDCP page has more information, and our front desk can help with questions.
Before any treatment starts, we will explain the costs and what your coverage is likely to pay, so there are no surprises.
What if I have a dental emergency?
A toothache, a broken tooth, a lost crown or swelling in your face or gums should be looked at promptly. Call us as early in the day as you can and describe what is happening. We try to see patients in pain as soon as we are able, including on the same day when the schedule allows.
More information is on our emergency dentist and same-day dentist pages. If you have swelling that is spreading, difficulty breathing or swallowing, or a high fever, go to the nearest hospital emergency department.
What if I feel nervous about the dentist?
Dental anxiety is common, and many people put off care because of it. Tell us when you book. We can take things slowly, explain each step before it happens, and agree on a signal you can use if you need a break.
For some patients and some treatments, sedation is an option. Your dentist will talk through whether it suits you and what it involves. See our sedation dentistry page for more.
